Panhandlers posing as nonprofits return to Lee County intersection

Lee County deputies were questioning solicitors who both looked like and were in the same location as phony fundraisers posing as a non-profit organization we reported on last month.

The panhandlers were asking for money at the busy intersection of US-41 and Boy Scout Drive around 2 p.m.

While deputies questioned them, we don't know if the solicitors were cited. We're waiting on a report from the sheriff's office on the encounter.

We tried to talk with the men, but they ignored us.

Deputies did not say if the solicitors were also claiming to be with New Life Christian Ministries.

But the panhandlers were wearing the same vests, carrying the same buckets and asking for money at the same intersection where we found them previously.

A group matching this description was also reported to Collier County deputies earlier this month.

Lee and Collier counties both ban soliciting without a permit - you can take a look at what those permits ask for  here and here.
