A restaurant owner in Cape Coral is taking a hard stance. He said he refused to play the NFL at his business.

“There’s a lot principally behind what’s going on right now,” said Shannon Yates, owner of the Nevermind Awesome Bar and Eatery.

He said if football players are going to keep taking a knee during the National Anthem he’s not going to show the game.

“It’s not who I am as an American citizen,” Yates said.

Instead of paying more than $2,000 for the TV package, he said he’s going to donate the money locally.

“We’re going to give it to local high school football programs,” he said.

While most of Yates’ customers agreed with his stance, some said they support the players also.

“It’s a form of protest. We should respect how they feel and want to express themselves even when they’re on the field,” customer Nona Eucare said.

Yates said if the players stop taking a knee during the National Anthem he’ll sign up for the NFL package. But until then, people will have to go somewhere else to watch the game.

“Right now I have no interest and my customers really don’t have any interest in it either,” he said.
