FORT MYERS BEACH, Fla. -

Lee County Sheriff's Office marine deputies and the US Coast Guard rescued a woman and her dog Tuesday afternoon after their boat started sinking near Fort Myers Beach.

Deputies said the boat was almost submerged in water when they arrived.

Together with the US Coast Gaurd, crew members were able to contain the flooding and tow the boat safely to shore on Fort Myers Beach.

The woman and pup were not injured.

"We are starting to see the impacts of Hurricane Michael even on the southern coast of Florida," William Walsh, Sector St. Petersburg Deputy Commander said. "Please check the weather before heading out on the water. High winds, waves and surge are deadly and can be felt well before the storm makes landfall."
