CAPE CORAL, Fla. -

Cape Coral middle school students played a cruel prank on their teacher, and it backfired big time.

More than a dozen students from Trafalgar Middle School are suspended for taking a picture of their male teacher's crotch in class and sharing it on social media.

This week, the Lee County School District found out about it after photos surfaced of a male teacher's groin while he was reading to a class.

The student who took the photo circled the teacher's crotch in red and shared it with dozens of friends on Snapchat.

The school district said students' cruel and lewd comments about the teacher landed them in the front office and eventually suspended for two days.

Lee County Schools issued the following statement:

"A picture of a teacher taken by a student during class was circulating on social media. There was nothing inappropriate in the picture, but the comments made by the students are completely unacceptable. We will not tolerate this kind of behavior and the students involved in the taking, sharing and commenting on the picture will be disciplined per the Student Code of Conduct.

School Board Policy 2.202 governs the use of student cell phones the Student Code of Conduct contains the Responsible Use Guidelines for electronic devices."
