Hurricane Michael is so bad Waffle House closed in Panama City Beach

Hurricane Michael is expected to be so dangerous that even the Panama City Beach Waffle House has closed, and the restaurant prides itself on staying open during emergencies.

FEMA even uses a Waffle House Index to decide how bad a storm will be.

"The Waffle House test just doesn't tell us how quickly a business might rebound — it also tells how the larger community is faring," said a FEMA blog post from 2011, when Craig Fugate was administrator under former President Obama.

The restaurant on Highway 30-A put up a sign saying the restaurant was closed.

The company's goal is to reopen its stores as quickly as possible after a hurricane, tornado, or other hazards. Waffle House says getting back to business restores a sense of normalcy in affected areas.

Hurricane Michael is forecasted to make landfall as a category 4 storm

I remember when Irma hit, the Waffle House on US-41 near Winkler had a line stretching down the block as it was one of the few places open.
