Engine issue forces United flight to make emergency landing at RSW

FORT MYERS, Fla. -

Five crew members and 79 passengers aboard a United Airlines flight received quite the scare after their plane was forced to return to Southwest Florida International Airport shortly after takeoff due to an engine issue.

United flight 2397, which had departed for Newark, made an emergency landing back at RSW at 12:50 Wednesday afternoon.

The airline sent the following statement:

"United flight 2397 from Fort Myers to Newark safely returned to the airport for a mechanical issue. We apologize to our customers for the inconvenience caused by this delay in their travels. We are working to get them to Newark as soon as possible."
