2 men killed in shooting at a Fort Myers shopping plaza

Two men were killed in a shooting at the Sungold Plaza off US-41 in Fort Myers on Wednesday night.

Investigators shut down US-41 at Hanson Street near the Sungold Plaza after the shooting around 10 pm. It has since reopened.

 

Fort Myers Police said the two men who died in the overnight shooting were Torre Deontray Fulcher, 41, and William Allen Merrill III, 43.

Police said they first responded to a car accident at Stella and US-41. Two men in one of the cars appeared to have been shot. Both men, Fulcher and Merrill, were rushed to the hospital and later died. 

Officers found multiple shell casings in the parking lot of Sungold Plaza. Fulcher's family said he was the owner of Urban Swagger, one of the shops in the plaza. Police believe this was a targeted shooting.
