NEAR-RECORD HEAT WEDNESDAY WITH A BETTER CHANCE FOR RAIN

Today's Forecast

The near-record October heat isn't going away, at least for the next few days, but plan on seeing a better chance for showers and storms today.

Today's rain chances bump up to near 50%, which is quite a jump from the minuscule rain chances we've had over the last few days (less than 20%).

Expect mostly rain-free conditions across Southwest Florida through early this afternoon with plenty of sun and temperatures breaking into the lower 90s.

Today's record high is 92 in Fort Myers, a record that was set in 1990.

Areas of rain and a few storms will start to bubble up during the mid afternoon and will track from east to west toward the coast by this evening.

Based on Hi-res forecast models this morning, the highest rain chances will likely set up across central portions of Southwest Florida like Lee and Hendry County, but rain will be possible anywhere today.

We'll see another day of near-record heat Thursday along with some hit-and-miss showers and storms during the afternoon.

Rain chances will drop off a little as we head into the weekend, and the heat will finally back off slightly Saturday and Sunday with highs from 88-90 degrees.

Next week, a weak cold front could get close enough to Southwest Florida to drop humidity levels by Monday and Tuesday, and temperatures are on track to drop into the mid to upper 80s for daytime highs.

Rain chances could spike Tuesday depending on the evolution of a low over the northern Gulf of Mexico, so check back with the forecast over the next few days. We may have to make some more adjustments to our forecast as we head into the next week.

For the first time in a long time, the tropics are quiet, and no development is expected through the next five days.
